Staying Focused

This week is all about the studies! Today, I had two presentations due. I thought they both went pretty well. The first one was about social class and politics in Jane Austen's Emma and the second was on Margaret Atwood's essay, "The Female Body." I was excited to get good feedback from my tutors (as we call them here)!

Everything else is ALL due next Tuesday. I have an essay for both classes, as well as my final writing portfolio for my creative writing class. I can barely believe that it's already down to crunch time- especially since I'm spending the weekend in London, away from the books :)

That being said, I'm trying to max out the FUN this week, too! We've been having dance practice in the p.m. at Linley House for the past couple of nights, in preparation for Write Night (a talent show). Chelsea and I did the choreographing, and we're doing "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls haha. The performance is next Wednesday night, and we're all getting excited! We're making shirts and everything :)

I went grocery shopping tonight at Sainsbury's Local, again. I like that place, b/c you can buy a week's worth of food for just 10 or so pounds (and I'm trying to tighten my belt). I'm convinced that I'm gonna be returning to America with virtually no money, so if anyone out there needs a babysitter, let me know! Let me also reiterate that a normal person's weekly dosage of food is equivalent to half a week's worth of food for me and my stomach, Lil Bubba. Case in Point: as soon as I got home from Sainsbury's, I just about finished the container of salsa I had just purchased...

I also found myself getting excited about "little pieces of home" today. In my Jane Austen class, we watched the beginning of the movie Clueless, since it is a spinoff of Emma. It was a bit refreshing to see American culture again, as shown in the movie. Also, when I was browsing through a store today, they started playing American folk music and I couldn't help but grin a little bit. Even though I've only been away for about a month, I still find myself touched by bits of familiarity. I'm sad that this will be my first 4th of July without fireworks.

On the bright side, though, I'm sooo stoked for "Wicked" this weekend in London. On Friday, we're also going to Oxford and going "punting." If you don't know what that is, look it up on Wikipedia- it's pretty funny (and even funnier picturing me, trying to do it!) haha. Just gotta push through these next couple of days, though!

Love to You All!!

Kelly :)
